Ecommerce LLC, a two-time Fast 50 Award winner, is seeking a VP of Sales.

The sky is the limit with a make-up of nearly 70% SMB and the sales opportunity for additional products and services such as Ecommerce, SSL certificates, design services, virtual private servers and cloud computing solutions. Using creative and innovative approaches to shape new product pitches, your overall goal is to increase customer retention and average revenue per customer.

Goals for the VP of Sales:

  • Direct and coordinate company sales functions
  • Develop and coordinate sales selling cycle and methodology
  • Direct and oversee the company's lead generation and lead nurturing functions to identify and new customers for products and services
  • Research and develop strategies and plans that will identify marketing opportunities and new product development
  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of sales, methods, costs, and results
  • Develop and manage sales budgets and oversee the development and management of internal project budgets
  • Directly manage major and critical customer accounts and coordinate the management of all other accounts
  • Participate in the development of new project proposals
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • Oversee and participate in the planning and development of company marketing and communications materials
  • Represent the company at various community and/or business meetings to promote the company to the business community at large
  • Be an internal and external champion for the company's goals and vision
  • Work with the Leadership Team to develop five-year business plans for the company
  • Build a sales team capable of delivering sales growth from existing customers through all available sales channels, while not losing sight of new customer opportunities
  • Up-sell new cloud hosting and related products to the Company's existing customer base, creating dramatic increases in new sales revenue.
  • Track and report the impact of your work - your success is defined by the growth you drive, so set and achieve ambitious goals. Your contribution will be objective and quantifiable with direct impact on Ecommerce's core metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of the mechanics of the Internet, online marketing, ecommerce and server and infrastructure systems.
  • 5+ years of sales management experience (ideally in the hosting, hardware or software technology arenas).
  • Strong experience in the management and creation of bootstrapped sales teams, with proven track record of effective coaching, leadership and mentoring skills.

Education:

A degree in "Awesome Customer Experiences and Outmaneuvering Competitors Domineeringly" is required, but we happen to be an accredited giver of "ACE-OCD" diplomas worldwide. Application information below.

TO APPLY:

To demonstrate your current ACE-OCD prowess, we ask that you answer the challenge questions below. Please include your answers with your cover letter.

  • Challenge 1:
Describe an approach you would utilize to leverage existing daily customer service contacts (phone support, helpdesk ticketing and live chat) of our IX Web Hosting brand (www.ixwebhosting.com) to create sales opportunities for add-on and advanced products. Consider customer wants and needs, and remember to be completely truthful with the customer. Additionally, how would you use this opportunity to create an extraordinary experience for the customer?

  • Challenge 2:
With a product mix consisting largely of low-dollar, high-volume offerings, what types of sales methods would you consider using to maximize sales conversion while keeping costs under control and incentivizing staff? Consider the average customer to be $10/month, and sample product range to be from $5/year to $100/month, spread across hundreds of thousands of customers. In contrast, how would you approach selling a $2,000 (one-time fee) educational product to these same customers?

  • Challenge 3:
If given the opportunity to build a direct sales force (largely phone or virtually based), how would it look like? Additionally, would you prefer to build an internal team, or outsource services from existing call centers or specialists? Why?

  • Challenge 4:
In a commodity services industry such as web hosting, what types of processes would you use to gather customer information and determine customer needs? How would you utilize this information in a sales effort? Consider the role of trusted relationships and recurring business models.

  • Challenge 5:
Scenario: You want to increase the sales rates of one of our add-on products, specifically SSL certificates, to our existing shared hosting customers. What would be your approach? How would you segment our customers (assume that no segmentation has been made to date, and the customer base may be a mix of personal and business customers)? How would you create the need for the product in our customer base? Provide some insight into the timeline for your approach and its milestones. Be sure to justify your reasoning for each milestone.

If you're the kind of person who obsesses over details, thrives in a collaborative environment and jumps at the opportunity to take on new challenges, Ecommerce may be the place for you. We have high expectations of every member of our team, but we believe this standard help us to deliver a service that our users call "mind-bogglingly awesome."

  • Help shape our brand and culture and create legend with every customer communication
  • Be an internal and external champion for the company's goals and vision

  • Challenge 1:
Describe an approach you might utilize to create team dynamic and group cohesion in a geographically diverse environment. How would your approach not only increase collaboration, but also result in improved performance and output?

  • Challenge 2:
Summarize the highlights of Web 2.0 user-centric design and its principles. What are example Web 2.0 sites (business sites only that sell a product or a service) that you cherish from a design and interaction perspective? • Challenge 3:
Imagine you're in charge of creating a relationship with IX Web Hosting's customers that focuses building trust. What would be your approach? What story would you tell?

  • Challenge 4:
Scenario: You want to increase the sales rates of add-on and standalone products, including Domain Registrations, Web Design, SSL Certificates, Public and Private Cloud and Virtual Private Servers (VPS) to existing shared hosting customers. What are business reasons customers might need or use these services? Which product line would be first, second, third and so forth? Provide some insight into the timeline for your project's milestones. Be sure to justify your reasoning for each. Also, consider the fact that you may have to find new creative talent meeting our Web 2.0 requirements and coordinate their output. Does this change your approach at all?

  • Challenge 5:
How would you approach creation, management and launch of a $2,000 educational product that is delivered by video to an audience that today is accustomed to paying mostly $3.95/mo, and no more than $10/mo on average? What are the results we can expect from a launch of such an (awesome) product to our 100,000+ customers?

  • Challenge 6:
As you perpetually build a relationship with your customers, how would you make sure that your email open rates and blog comments from excited customers continuously increase?

  • Challenge 7:
In this role, you will frequently have to find very talented Web 2.0 oriented creative staff to work with. How would you approach doing that? Give us your top 5 creative third-party design vendors that you would choose to work with and describe why. With limited budget, how would you juggle multiple projects and what project management methodologies would you utilize?

  • Challenge 8:
Like in many other consumer goods and services industries, hosting product review sites provide insight and information potential customers need prior to making a purchase. Specifically related to the hosting industry, how do the common review sites fall short in your opinion, and how would you approach creating such a website to leverage its effects in an ethical manner? How would you approach the wire framing of your site's layout?

We are looking for an Affiliate Marketing King Kong who is fluent in SEO, SEM and Conversions and goes bananas for ripe affiliate relationships. To demonstrate your current level of OCD, show us the bananas. What are the bananas? We're glad you asked! Tell us a bit about what you believe are the top affiliates in the web hosting industry and what major competitors are we competing with in this space (for affiliate relationships)? Why do you believe it would be extremely challenging to dominate this space? How would you approach some of those top affiliates (and who exactly?) and convince them to stop feeding the Monkeys? What not-so-obvious channels would you go after to recruit affiliates, and why do you think that would work?

Please include the answers to above questions with your cover letter.

Be prepared to demonstrate an affinity for consistency, color use, typography and a keen eye for subtle details. If you're like us - maniacally focused on creating jaw-droppingly gorgeous interfaces that draw users into a website or application like Romeo to Juliet and absolutely cannot rest until the perfect colors and fonts are married with stellar images and iconography, we want to talk to you. You know how to code too? Great, that's a definite plus.

You should be self-motivated, able to work independently, and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision. Expertise using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other design related software required. Mac fanatics are strongly preferred. Knowledge of HTML, Flash, CSS, and other web standards is a plus. BFA or BA degree in design related studies are also preferred, with an online portfolio demonstrating user experience and killer visual design work. The ideal candidate will have a unique eye, great design skills and a real knack for building usable, understandable interactive experiences. We prize those who get the big picture but are willing to roll up their sleeves to do whatever it takes to get a job done right.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and Create Beautiful Websites
  • Orchestrate Amazing User Interfaces and Customer Experiences (UI, UX & Interaction Design)
  • Think creatively and be opinionated - design the best product on the web, and then make it even better. Focus on simple and clean experiences. Don't be afraid to explore non-conventional approaches to address conventional problems.
  • Create Custom Artwork (for times when stock art just won't do it)
  • Own and manage the Ecommerce identity and brand
  • Improve online presences (www.ixwebhosting.com (primary brand), www.hostexcellence.com, www.ecommerce.com) to properly reflect our culture, improve their user friendliness and optimize conversion
  • Extend and continually improve a visual interface design system and help create & maintain the style guidelines that instruct a growing team's work
  • Apply your skills & use your tools - collaborate with a team of designers, project managers, and engineers to provide sketches, concept visualizations, mock-ups, prototypes, specifications, and ultimately high-resolution, assets for beautiful user interfaces

Qualifications:

  • At least 5+ years of web, ecommerce, application, or UI design experience
  • Mastery of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator from the current Adobe Creative Suite
  • Mac Fanatic (if you're not, we will still talk to you, but you're not forgiven!)
  • Strong experience with usability design, wire framing, site navigation, and interaction flows/maps.
  • Strong skills with layout principles, typography, and aesthetic design concepts, practices, and procedure
  • 1-3 years of experience with CSS, HTML and Javascript
  • Experience conducting usability sessions is a major bonus

Please also include your portfolio of past creative material which you created (web, UI/UX, wire frames, email, print... ).

  • Challenge 1:
Summarize the highlights of Web 2.0 user-centric design and its principles. What are example Web 2.0 sites (business sites only that sell a tool, product or a service) that you cherish from a design, UI/UX and interaction perspective (note: do not list any run of the mill boring corporate websites)? Only list websites / UIs that you could create yourself based on your current skills and talent. Why are they your favorites? What is so special about them?

  • Challenge 2:
Take a look at the current homepage of IX Web Hosting (www.ixwebhosting.com). What do you think needs to be changed to increase conversions (= sale of a new hosting account), or do you think it's close to perfect the way it is? If any, why do you think these changes would increase conversion?

  • Challenge 3:
Create a list of required and recommended design and interaction elements that you would incorporate in user interfaces and/or websites? What elements that are commonly found in UIs / websites that deteriorate UX? How would you approach wire framing and then designing a sample UI or website?

  • Challenge 4:
Do you have a methodology or systematic approach that you would use to take a project from idea to production? Consider that there may be multiple project sponsors that may be located around the globe - and some of them may have contradicting opinions. How would you manage that? How would you ensure that the project stays on time and budget considering a never-ending flow of revision requests?

  • Challenge 5:
Imagine you're part of the creative team that's tasked with creating a relationship with IX Web Hosting's customers that focuses building trust. What would be your approach? What story would you tell through your design or otherwise? How would you create an extraordinary experience for our customers?

  • Challenge 6:
Scenario: You're asked to come up with creating a Web2.0-like website to replace our IX Web Hosting site. You want to explore a new and very different approach on how to design the site (keeping website conversions in mind). You search the Internet to come up with inspiration and ideas for such a "new" approach. Show us a couple of existing example websites that would inspire you, explain why they would inspire you and how they would be applicable to the success of your new IX Web Hosting site's design.

If you're the kind of driven product marketing mastermind who obsesses over details, thrives in a collaborative environment and jumps at the opportunity to take on new challenges; Ecommerce may be the place for you. We have high expectations of every member of our team, but we believe this standard helps us to deliver a service that our customers call "mind-bogglingly awesome."

Does this change your approach at all?

  • Challenge 3:
If you had to facilitate a product launch of one of our products (choose any of the non shared web hosting products from the IX Web Hosting product line) to existing shared web hosting customers, how would you do so leveraging video?
